Am I the Only One Who’s Sick and Tired of Menopause?

The flare-ups were constant and undeniable, as well as the night sweats and the tiredness. At some point I thought menopause had arrived with a vengeance. However, after a heart attack and follow-up open heart surgery, my surgeon diagnosed me with coronary heart disease. I could have sworn it was menopause given the similarities in the symptoms, but I was dead wrong. In fact, It would be another year before I would begin that not-so-welcomed stage of my life. Aging is not easy. Nevertheless, it is a necessary part of the circle of life.

I now have a new appreciation for womanhood. I totally understand why the homes of my aging friends are always freezing cold and why many women have drawers and shelves full of mood enhancers, melatonin, antidepressants, and hormonal vitamins and meds after they reach a certain age. I never dreamed that this stage of life would be so difficult, but I am learning a lot as I walk through that oh so dark valley of shadows. And now, when I read Jeremiah 20:9, I can totally relate to the prophet Jeremiah when he says, “It’s like a fire shut up in my bones…” — of course, not at all in a good way.

I will be candid, because of my condition, there are times when lay in bed at night, going through night sweats every 25 minutes, and I wonder if I am having heart issues or if it’s menopause taking up residence in my body for good! If you are a woman, I am certain you can relate. This is why I appreciate being who God has created me to be. It is not easy being a woman. I could take all day just to talk about female discrimination, being labeled the weakest link, pregnancy, giving birth, menstruation, assault, domestic abuse, gender discrimination in ministry, and on and on. However, as sick and tired as I am of all that, I find peace in knowing that God sees me as more than a gender, a patient, or a weakling — He loves me because I am His daughter, and that’s that! I am the apple of His eye, and that is pretty cool.

However, that doesn’t make my present circumstances any less real. The inconveniences of going through “the change” are no joke. I’m sure you know about the weight gain, inflammation, sleepiness, mood swings, lack of libido, hair loss, and the list goes on. On the bright side, menopause makes menstruation a walk in the park! But thankfully, God goes further in bringing relief to all of us sufferers, gifting health providers and scientists with enough wisdom to put together a number of products to make this curse more bearable. Also, as women, we have been given a unique sense of wisdom for creating and researching things to better our lives and that of those who do life with us. As such, I have compiled a short list of products available for women who are sick and tired of going through the change without much relief. So, keep calm and blame it all on Eve.

  • BioTE® Hormone Pellet Therapy – Though pricey, this is the best product I have found for myself, but is not for everyone. Consult your doctor first.
  • Mellanni Cooling Sheets – I just ordered a set and will post a review once I try them, but I have heard good things.
  • CoolingGel/Cervical Pillows – I used to own one and loved it, but in my many moves, I seem to have misplaced it. I just ordered a new one.

If you know of, or use any products not listed here that have worked miracles for you, please share the goodness with the rest of us sufferers. We will be forever grateful!

Disclaimer: I’m not a medical professional, but have used some of these products in the past, some I am currently using, and others have been referred to me by friends. Also, as with all medications and supplements, read the warning label! Most are not to be taken by pregnant or lactating women (for good reason). Consult your health professional before use if you are taking prescription medication or have an existing condition.

  1. I really love this post because I can relate since I am going through the menopausal stage and, oh my gosh! what I hate the most is the night sweats and the sleepless nights.

I used to have the pellets done but after the second one my OBG doctor found that I had polyps that comes from the hormones, so even though I love the way I felt with it, I have to decline using them. But I am trying other stuff. There are some days that I feel unbalanced, forgetful, dizzy and fuzzy. I guess it has to do with this so called menopause 🤔

I do appreciate you sharing how you feels, as that opens doors for others like you and me to open up to this subject and share our experiences and what has helped us minimize the symptoms.

Please ladies 🚺 🙏 ❤️ add more comments we all needed.

    1. Viví, it is something you can’t really talk about until you experience it yourself. And wow! There is so much we can share about this subject. Thanks for sharing your experience.

  2. I’m trying to navigate the menopause stage but I can tell you the night sweats are killing me. Thank you for the info. I’m going to try some of this.
